'Memorie' was created in the tradition of 17th-century Dutch vanitas paintings, where objects like exotic shells served as potent symbols of life's fleeting nature and material wealth; this photograph reimagines those narratives for the 21st century. Memories of sifting through a prized sea shell collection in childhood inform the composition, while connecting to the shells' historical value as a trade item and object of fascination. 'Memorie' is part of the ongoing Onweacnan series which encompasses works of neovictoriana still life.
