Inspired by the dramatic lighting and deep symbolism of 17th-century Dutch masters, this contemporary photograph titled 'Defier', was created as a profound memento mori (remember you must die). The image contrasts rich textures and vibrant colors of an opulent feast with the stark, glossy black of a raven's feathers, inviting contemplation on the fleeting nature of indulgence and life itself. 'Defier' is part of the ongoing Onweacnan series which encompasses works of neovictoriana still life.
